The Southern California FASD Information & Support Network is proud to bring Diane Malbin to Los Angeles May 18 -20, 2012 to present a 3-day training workshop, “Fetal Alcohol & Other Neurobehavioral Conditions: Understanding & Application of a Brain-Based Approach.”

This training is designed for professionals as well as parents and other caregivers of children, adolescents and adults with confirmed or suspected fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and other brain-based conditions. Adults with brain-based behavioral conditions, including FASD have also attended and found it helpful.
The goal of this workshop is to develop specific, concrete techniques for working with people with FASD and to develop a plan for their implementation. The agenda provides: 1) A foundation for understanding neurobehavioral disorders, 2) A framework for developing effective techniques, and 3) Support for implementation of these techniques in different settings. Content includes current research-based information on FASD, a conceptual model for applying a neurocognitive approach, and opportunities to develop and plan implementation of strategies.The workshop format includes lecture, slides, videos, and small and large group exercises. Questions and discussion are encouraged throughout. Handouts and resources are provided.

The objectives of this workshop-style-training include:
Understanding FASD as a brain-based physical disability with behavioral symptoms
Understanding and recognizing primary, secondary and tertiary symptoms
Learning why people with FASD frequently receive overlapping DSM diagnoses
Understanding why traditional behavioral treatment techniques are frequently ineffective for many people with FASD
Learning to develop and apply effective strategies for people with FASD in different settings

Time: May 18-20, 9:00a.m. – 4:00p.m.
Training Registration: $350 due by April 27.
Deposit: $125 due February 17. Balance due on or before April 27. Checks, money orders, credit cards and PayPal are accepted.
CEU Credits: 19.5 hours of Continuing Education Credit for NASW (National Association of Social Workers) have been approved. Certificates of completion will be provided. All participants will also receive a general certificate of completion for the training.
Diane V. Malbin, MSW, is an internationally recognized authority on FASD. She is the founder of the nonprofit organization, FASCETS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Consultation, Education and Training Services, Inc.). She is the author of numerous papers and publications on FASD, and conducts trainings throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
